Undercarriage and Engine Compartment
For Transit Only

This video is designed to help you explain to drivers what actually happens under the bus as they:

  • Apply the air brakes.
  • Turn the steering wheel.
  • Depress the clutch pedal.
  • Set the parking brake and emergency stopping system.

This video is not designed to make the driver a mechanic, but to give the driver a better understanding of how the bus operates. With this knowledge, the driver can be better prepared to:

  • Identify problems early on and prevent on-the-road breakdowns
  • Locate critical components such as cut-off switches and fuel tanks
  • Communicate about problems with mechanics
  • Assist police and fire personnel if there is an emergency such as an electrical fire

Save everyone time and money while protecting passengers.

A veteran instructor and driver take you on a tour under buses raised up on hoists. From this viewpoint the driver can locate, identify, and understand:

  • How the steering system works
  • How the cooling and heating systems operate
  • How the suspension and braking sustems actually perform
  • How the power train components are linked
  • What to check in the engine compartment
  • Where critical safety and shut-off switches are located

This video features transit type of buses with both rear and mid-engine configurations.

Please Note: This video is designed to be used with the CDL Transit Pre-Trip inspection video to prepare drivers for the CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Test.

47 minute video covering rear and mid-engine buses separately
