Substance Abuse Professionals

In response to industry demand, the Substance Abuse Professional Training Program was developed to provide specific information and guidance for employers, substance abuse professionals (SAPs),  SA program administrators and other professionals who must monitor substance abuse programs, as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation regulations.

This program was developed in cooperation with practicing SAPs nationwide, and members of the Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA), the American Psychological Association (APA), the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), and the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors  (NAADAC).

Issues addressed in this program:

• What are a SAP’s responsibilities and restrictions?
• How do regulations differ between DOT agencies?
• What are the responsibilities of employer representatives and health professionals in alcohol and drug testing programs?
• What information is required to be shared with the employer?
• How can risks to employers and SAPs be reduced?        
• How does an organization’s structure and environment affect the delivery of SAP services?
• What contracts and/or agreements should be in place?
• What issues should be addressed in an organization’s Substance Abuse Policy to help avoid confusion?

Substance Abuse Professional Self-Study Program

This program consists of elements of "The Substance Abuse Professional  Program" as well as our nationally presented SAP Workshops. It also includes an expanded DOT Agency Rules Review.
