Part I: The Shifting Lesson: 19 minutes

Using a cutaway transmission, the video demonstrates what happens when you move the gearshift lever. Drivers can actually see how the gears move and why proper clutch use and gear selection is critical to safe driving. Each of the gear positions for shifting is demonstrated.

Part II: Finding the Correct Shift Points: 26 minutes

We follow a driver and instructor on board a bus and learn to apply what was just learned. The video uses a special large Tachometer and Speedometer so viewer can watch the driver and gauges at the same time. Special graphs reinforce the discovery of the correct shift points. This part of the tape is divided into six sections.

What the driver learns:

• Finding the correct shift points
• Upshifting through the gears
• Downshifting at the top of the gear range
• Downshifting at the bottom of the gear range
• Establishing a Mid-Range shift point
